This is a recording (17 min of presentation & 14 min of Q & A) of the "Remote Learning for Lakeview Lions" presentation on August 20th, 2020. This presentation looked at "Return to School Plan for Remote Learning" that PYLUSD shared and how that looks for our Lakeview Lions through a zoom presentation.

we are going to be recording this session so that we can put it on our website please only use a chat function when we and again on Kelly is our PTA president and she is our co-host monitoring the activities so I wanted to start at with this really cute one minute video it's 10 years old so she's probably and you might have seen am I pointing no we don't see your screen but he can't see what I'm looking at okay let me know. can you see my email yes you can so we're going to start with this video TCO live words of wisdom bike give me some time. I wanted to share that is positive words thinking that we want to understand where the other person is coming from and be more Graceland it's going to be to try to work together and we when we ask positive extra stuff to be in Korea I'm just as we would be encouraging a child when they are first learning how to ride a bike I think if we can be encouraging up one another I'm encouraging our students that they can do it it's a different environment but that's okay we're going to figure it out the staff with the teachers they are working extremely hard and they haven't even return officially back to school and yet many of them have been coming in and working and see if we can practice Grace flexibility I think what we all are going to have a better experience remembering that positivity breeds positivity so how is remote learning different from the spring so in the spring distance learning mode not every teacher has the exact same ways of doing things there wasn't quite the on Friday we announced it and Monday we started versus what we're doing now is planned remote learning their spend months of planning we're returning to the traditional grading system proactive in planning for the online learning be quiet daily live instruction there's four set of consistent online school and standards-based curriculum if there's a line professional development teachers are their official day of school did not however they've been participating in online early bird professional development is what we have been calling in and they've been preparing all ready for this the structure attendance and follow-up there's access two layers of supporting invention Time online resources so what we're trying to do is emulate their actual school year so that wants me transition back into Brown on Brown School students already are used to the structure the bell schedule and things of that nature by now you probably know that remote money at are district planned to go until Friday November 6th which is the end of the first trimester and if your phone and I'm you're looking at the list the monitoring list for us to be we're already in mind as we plan for the whole school year students will be participating in synchronous interest live at the same time that the teachers on on Zoom live at the same time with the students but they're also have a synchronous work where teachers will assign assignments there is daily instruction consisting of the Reading Writing language Math Science Social Studies as well as PE and music depending on the grade level I'm grading policy will be the same and daily attendance will be so the pushing and make sure that our students are supported is as well as be play where the teachers are intervening and supporting the students I mentioned that the teachers have been doing a lot of professional development these are some of the apps that the various teachers are using Google classroom for kindergarten and preschool I won't read through all of these but I did want to share with you that because it's a remote learning environment we do have classroom expectations mainly be on time that they're in a quiet environment. Just like how you're doing it right now that there's a designated area where they can focus on that they're prepared there they're wearing outfits that are for sensible that there unless the teacher asked them to talk. There is participation going on enchanting responsibly over these rules in detail and talk about how each of these pertain to their classrooms clear communication and of course to continue to be respectful not only the teacher in the environment but to one another or other videos learning format their learning environment is visible to all the learners we do ask the students to leave it on so that teachers can communicate and be able to see whether the students are understanding however if there for some reason you do need to a video of the students need to turn it off. It is visible to the entire class shared a sample schedule and so she has one sample schedule every teacher and sure when school starts but I did want to share with you what's the student that would be the the recess time and the student end time so that I highlighted ours are the same for all of the students with the brakes who are the beginning or the end are the times where they will have flexibility in determining whether it's going to be English language arts first or mask first or if they're pushing for peace will vary depending on the teachers and the whole school schedule and once again what's the school starts the teachers will share their specific schedule with the parents in the I know that some of you are still considering the various districts option so I didn't want to just highlights the main differences amongst Buena Vista versus our school which is the remote learning as you can see is always online versus where are temporarily online the the moment we're okay to come back to school going to work towards that transition the all year long one of us most common questions that we get some parents confirms what would be their students better and I want to say that in general students to change schools in the middle of the school year because it's a lot of stress when they have to go through changes and the pacing my feet variables that research shows is not beneficial to in general we don't want you to move between or among the however if that is what you choose to do and he decide to come back and this is your homeschooled and yes we will take you back we will accept you back when you come back time for the ratings of first trimester or second trimester and then you would receive support so that would be the main difference Cousin It is a stressful time especially with the lack of social in connection with the students and teachers we do have various services and that might be another reason why you might want to but we will continue to have our RV cheese that needs the Behavior Support Outreach is a district program for if they need any social emotional support we also provide outside resources we are School psychologists are School psychologists who has been with the district for the past is a site that has you if you need a referral service please let us know and reach out to us and we'll be able to connect you with the services. States which I did include in the lion pride update in the one that I sent distribution is next Monday if you already receive it from do not need to come back and check it out again if you need another device for your child because did not receive one than 824 Monday between 8 and 12 is with when you want to come in on school material distribution and way to teacher is set for Monday and so you have to break down of the time here if you have siblings and I get this question a lot if you have siblings and you don't necessarily want to see your teacher the teachers hours then when you drive through for example let's say I have a first grader and a third grader when I come through the first grade line I can actually ask for the third grade materials and we'll get it for you but just as I mentioned in the newsletter have the student named paper with the teacher names the grade and in the student named that way we can clearly see and materials for you I'm back to school night and we have two different dates one for our very first timers for the property and the kindergarteners at 8:31 on August 31st and 11th and then for everybody else it's on Thursday 5:30 is my mole starts with the PTA meetings and again once we share with you through the teachers are on the teachers email out all of these doing so you'll have the specific information and I do want to remind everyone that are like sponges and sponges always are absorbed and so just like that kids are always absorbing knowledge they're always learning they're always learning from their experiences and some user watching also just like our our our the best way to react let's show them the best way to Thomas encouraged to work on at so that our students model after us and Beast positive and asking positive because that's what our students happy healthy and we definitely want to see our kids growing up very positive part of our society that took not that long 23 minutes so at this time I'm going to ask Kelly to help monitor the chat box if you have any general go ahead and type it into the chat box please also visit our website cuz that's where we continue to update information and we just I'm brand new to Instagram so my mrs. Dr. Chen can you hear me personally hives and regarding to win teacher assignments are going to be announced and I said it typically occurs the Friday before and then the follow-up to that is how will they be announce announce we're going to send it out I believe it's the district office that they mailed it out to Aeries portal so on August 27th I believe that stuff Thursday August 27th is when it's supposed to be pushed out if you want to go onto Aerie's portal August 27th after 4 would be able to see that information what do we have regard is regarding the registration paperwork to and how that should be submitted when I'm going to ask you to as you were looking through all of those documents on Aries on their confirmation confirmation registration portion or brand new students registering if you are a brand new student to Lakeview and you're going through the registration process and you need to submit documents AOL app pylusd stop share actually let's share our I'm going to actually share our website that way I can point to it you can see my screen time on lakeview's website Erasure I have missed Bissell email on the very first page view elementary school and all of those documents to me referring to the data confirmation I think on that I have others couple Pages within that document that said sign and submit that turn enjoying the drop off for the pick up the distribution day on August 31st when you come to pick up your school supplies you can have those in alright the next question revolves around zoom and screen time and it is basically that the schedule is over an hour of mass will our children be on Zoom for a full hour work that is not on the computer right Tina asked if OC Health approved us to open before November 6th will our school go back to in-person learning prior to the end of our trimester possible but it is a transition and it requires transition time after everything is approved then it has to go through that transition play it's not going to be tomorrow but we're going to be planning that out so it's as smooth and well-thought-out as possible possible to go back before the but he's not going to be the very next day okay the next question we have has to do again with hours that are on zoom in this one looks a little bit more General and it's specifically asked how long fifth graders and Runners will be online yeah so it's the same same answer basically it's going to be some direct instruction and then some intervention that's coming in to play and then depending on grade level depending on the day even within the same grade level information okay jolene's like to know if the preschool children if there is a pick up for them on the 31st as well or if they have a different date or different system teachers who is a different program look for the information that is sent from their teachers okay and your next question asked again about students returning on end of the first trimester and what that would look like I think it's the same answer as I've mentioned before it is it'll probably transition time after it's approved and hybrid most likely and again information I shared with you today my change tomorrow as you've seen things change all the time and that's the reason why we ask for flexibility as you've seen all around the whole country in the whole world I should say but it's we're going to make it as smooth as possible so it will be a transition. It'll most likely go into hybrid first before going fall change alright the next question is how often parents will need to come to school to pick up new assignments and assignments have been completed pictures of some teachers on because they're doing arts and crafts example. Are different every week that aren't common items my jewelry tree pickup and I'll have everything ready and we'll only be once a month so every teacher is going to communicate with a parent what that's going to look like looks like we have a follow-up question regarding when students will be allowed to come back to it a person teaching and the question says will the district be making their own science based assessment of when it is generally safe to have our kids back on campus or the district simply be falling to state or County determination the district has been awesome in in working together and taking into consideration the county guideline for Placentia Yorba Linda it would be another conversation and the board approval as well on top of that to get that point so yes they're going to look at all plexiglass purse right now for once we do come back so it's not they're not doing anything right now they actually are taking many steps having lots of conversation and looking at the bigger picture the various departments to make sure that everything is for all of our students as well as a physical health our next question regards our music program and an  will the upper grades music instruments don't have the specifics but I believe the music department is working on what that schedule is going to look like they're going to come up with some kind of schedule and again but they're working on the schedule for passing out those instruments the first couple weeks before actually starting the music okay the next question is when will we know the actual class daily schedule I think that it has to do with like from your individual okay well the younger children be expected to connect resume multiple times during the day or the day will they just leave their devices on to them the entire day this mother is concerned about not being able to help her first grader log on several times a day while she's working those kind of details or questions for teachers because I think every teachers going to have their ways of doing things if if you're concerned with is it okay to leave Carnival time yeah because of the teachers going to be on the whole time so if that's a personal preference where you log into zoom and then when they're working independently they turn off the video aspect of it I mean. reaching out to the teachers show me you're on mute is there any other questions alright sorry about that we have a gate question and it asked if we are going to be doing gate testing in the fall and if we are what it is going to look like I have no information on that right now if you can email me later on I can look into it for you okay the next question is if there is a list of teachers or teaching each grade level and if it's posted on the where is the one on the website is up-to-date and accurate August 27th okay we have a question about how PE will work during distance learning themselves by grade level and there's going to be two 30 minutes session and the teachers will be the ones deciding when they will engage the class in those two 30 days 30 minutes each of those days the last question that I see is from Deborah and I don't understand it so Deborah if you could retype the question for me we can try to get to that pretty anybody else has question send them in the chat or looks like we're about to wrap up all right it looks like Debra doesn't have a question anymore and I do not see any more in the chat I'm going to stop sharing so I'll stick around 4 or 7 more minutes if you want
