Lakeview Lions Update - October 2, 2026

Dear Lakeview Community,

Thank you to all our families who attended our Fall Family Picnic on Wednesday! I am impressed by everyone’s creativity in bringing your own shade and pop-up tables. Some even had a whole “living room-like” setup - fancy! I am also grateful to you for adhering to our parking and dismissal guidelines. We know there are challenges in bringing the whole school together for an event, but we believe the benefits of being together as a Lakeview community outweigh these momentary challenges.

Thank you for joining in on the celebration for our Custodial Team, Raul and Jose, by sending your child in Dodger Blue gear! Mr. Raul was honored throughout his day shift by students, staff, and parents. Mr. Jose arrived at work to find gifts and cards next to his walkie-talkie. We are the absolute luckiest to have such detail-oriented and professional custodians who take such good care of our school.

We had our seasonal site visit by Dr. Kym, Superintendent of Schools, today! Although from Colorado, Dr. Kym donned a Dodger jersey to continue celebrating our custodians! We visited classrooms where students were working hard at annotating texts with icons and notes, listening to non-fiction text to identify key features, practicing motor skills by cutting out letters to build spelling words, and transitioning to recess with a goal-setting reflection. Dr. Kym also observed some of our parent volunteers extraordinaire who were supporting differentiated instruction by facilitating small group activities. Lastly, she learned more about how we create opportunities for students to connect with each other and find a sense of belonging at Lakeview through our Collectors Showcase, which now has its first display up and running for all to see, thanks to Mrs. Torres!

We are anticipating high temperatures next week! Please send your child with appropriate layers of clothes, water bottles, and healthy snacks next week. We will continue to monitor the weather and adhere to our inclement weather plans as necessary. Our AV system is down, and therefore, a movie will not be shown in the MPR. However, students are encouraged to bring non-electronic board games, cards, crafts, or books to read at lunch, as the MPR will still be available to cool down.

Please read below for upcoming events and activities you're not going to want to miss!

Join us on Wednesday, October 14th at 8am in the MPR for the first Coffee with the Principal - These quarterly events are opportunities for parents to hear updates from Mrs. Given and connect with other parents. There is a special topic for each event. For this first event, parents will learn about current safety protocols and meet our School Resource Officer. Please bring a valid ID to sign in at the office first! Flyer attached.

AVID Focus: This week, upper graders are learning about the Five Phases of Note-Taking! Students are practicing how to prepare, take notes, process information, make connections, and apply what they learn. These simple skills help students become more organized and confident learners—and they’ll use them throughout their school years!

PTA CORNER

Join us Friday, October 23 from 5:00–7:00 PM for our Spooktacular Trunk or Treat—a special evening for our Lakeview community to come together, celebrate, and create memories our children will cherish. We’re hoping every classroom will join the fun by creating a creative, decorated trunk and helping bring this celebration to life! And, of course, there will be a little friendly competition with a Best Decorated Trunk contest! Spooktacular Trunk or Treat 2026.pdf

High School Volunteers: We’re also welcoming high school volunteers looking to earn service hours and local businesses interested in hosting a trunk or sponsoring the event. Every trunk, helping hand, and contribution makes this event more special for our students. Let’s come together to make our first Spooktacular Trunk or Treat a joyful night filled with laughter, creativity, connection, and Lakeview spirit!

Please see the attached flyers for more information on the event, volunteering, and sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested in helping the event or have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Jen Dinh-Avila ([email protected]).
