Good evening Lakeview community,
Thank you for participating in your Parent-Teacher conference to learn about your child’s progress and ways to partner with his/her teacher to ensure continued growth. A strong school to home connection helps children see the value of their education and can increase their achievement.
No School next week for Thanksgiving Break!
The CA Dashboard results have been released for the 2024-2025 school year. We are pleased with our outcomes, especially our growth in ELA for students with disabilities and our movement for all student groups into the Blue for Math. Exceptionally noted is our Science score, providing an 8 point increase. With the new science standards, the CAASPP now assesses content from grades 1-5, a shift from the previous practice of just 4th and 5th grade standards. Hats off to our teachers for preparing our students along the way!
One area of growth identified for our Lakeview Community is our attendance. After working hard to move out of the red to green for chronic absenteeism over the past few years, I am saddened to report we have dropped once again. Students are considered chronically absent when they are absent 10% or more of their enrollment days, excused or unexcused. This number is ever shifting. For example, if your child has been enrolled for 60 days, they would be chronically absent at 6 days. There are ways to mitigate this!
- Plan vacations during regular school breaks (ie: Thanksgiving Break)
- Request an Independent Study Contract for planned vacations of 3 or more days. Requests can be made to your teacher and office at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Monitor illnesses by using the attached Illness Guidelines. Students can attend school even if they have mild cold symptoms
- Schedule appoints outside of the school day. If the appointment is at 11am, your child can attend school in the morning and/or return after the appointment.
Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or our office staff. To monitor chronically absent students, School Attendance Review Team (SART) meetings will begin in December. Attendance audits are a regular part of our office and letters are sent as a form of communication. Let’s partner together so Lakeview once again rises out of the negative!
