Dear Lakeview Community,
We’ve got quite a few rainy days in the forecast and I want to provide information to help you plan. Students should wear layers to class which can include a hooded rain jacket. Hats are allowed outside only and should be removed when entering a building. Umbrellas are allowed but we ask for your support in teaching them how to use it properly before bringing it to school:
Practice opening and closing at home: Please have your child practice opening and closing their umbrella several times so they can do it smoothly and safely on their own.
Teach safe spacing: Remind your child to keep enough space between themselves and others when the umbrella is open to avoid bumping or poking classmates.
Walk, don’t play: Encourage your child to use their umbrella only for staying dry—not for spinning, twirling, or playing with it during arrival or dismissal.
Carry it responsibly: Show your child how to hold the umbrella down at their side when it’s closed so they don’t swing it or drag it.
Label the umbrella: Please write your child’s name on the umbrella so it can be easily identified if misplaced.
If your child is not able to responsibly manage this tool, we will ask for you to keep it at home.
After extended time in the classroom, it is always a priority to provide students with a movement break and access to fresh air. Outdoor recess and lunch may occur if the rainfall is very light knowing that our lunch tables are under shelter. Additionally, students may enter the MPR during “play” time to watch a movie, play cards or board games provided by our Wellness Staff.

We are heading into the cold and flu season. Did you know that students can still attend school even if they have mild cold symptoms or a tummy ache? Oftentimes students find that school “is magical” and their symptoms may subside once they get going with their day. Our staff also closely monitor students and will send your child to the Health Office if they feel something is awry. Attached is the Student Illness Guideline to help you decide when your child should stay home.
There is a District-wide Attendance Challenge through November and December. We are competing against our old selves in an attempt to beat last year’s 93.73% attendance rate. If you have questions about whether your child can attend, please don’t hesitate to call the Health Clerk at (714) 987 - 7190 ext 53042.
