Dear Lakeview Community,
Trimester 1 has closed today! It’s been a busy start to the school year and as our fall season continues to unfold before us, I hope you are able to take time to pause and reflect on your child’s progress thus far. My own four-year-old, Elton, has been sounding out words and asking if her kid-spelling is correct (to which the answer is usually yes even if it isn’t - it’s about the process not the product
). She gleefully stated “This is why you send me to school!”
A few parents have shared about the struggles this week brought after our clocks shifted back and darkness came earlier in the day. We have noticed that many children are hungry well before the scheduled break. Our natural rhythms are a bit out of sync. Thus another great reason to take pause this weekend and catch up on time and delicious meals together.
November is a shortened month. Please pay attention to the following schedule changes:
Tuesday, November 11 - NO SCHOOL; Veterans Day
Friday, November 14 - Rainbow Run Jogathon
Wednesday, November 19 - Minimum Day (not a Wednesday schedule) for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thursday, November 20 - Minimum Day (not a Regular schedule) for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Friday, November 21 - NON STUDENT DAY for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Monday, November 17 - Friday, November 21 - NO SCHOOL for Thanksgiving Break
**A separate Jogathon email with detailed progress will come early next week! Keep fundraising, we are almost 90% of the way there!
Afterschool Coding and Chessmasters are starting on Monday! See the attached flyers for information.
Play Practice every Tuesday unless communicated otherwise. It is important for all participants to be at each practice unless they are ill.
Every Wednesday is AVID College & Career Ready Spirit Day - Wear your college or career gear to set a strong goal and focus for your future!
Every Friday is Lakeview Spirit Day - Wear your school colors (gold/black) or your Lion gear every Friday to celebrate our community! If you ordered Fall Spirit Wear, they will be delivered to the school and distributed soon!
We are heading into the cold and flu season. Did you know that students can still attend school even if they have mild cold symptoms or a tummy ache? Oftentimes students find that school “is magical” and their symptoms may subside once they get going with their day. Our staff also closely monitor students and will send your child to the Health Office if they feel something is awry. Attached is the Student Illness Guideline to help you decide when your child should stay home.
There is a District-wide Attendance Challenge through November and December. We are competing against our old selves in an attempt to beat last year’s 93.73% attendance rate. If you have questions about whether your child can attend, please don’t hesitate to call the Health Clerk at (714) 987 - 7190 ext 53042.
Did you know that El Dorado High School and Valencia High School offer a Teacher Education Pathway? Check out the ROP website to learn more about it! Please contact the El Dorado Principal, Michael Zides at [email protected] or Valencia HS Principal, Chris Herzfeld at [email protected] for more information.
