Lakeview Lion Updates: December 9, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

This was a week of giving and our Lakeview Community was generous! Thank you to the many families who attended our Dining with Lakeview Restaurant Fundraiser at Apola Greek Grill on Wednesday. I know some staff, including myself, appreciated the fundraiser timing to include lunch. Thank you to the many, many donations for our Help a Furry Friend Fundraiser. We have an abundance of amazing blankets and toys for rescue-animals, led by our Sunshine Squad. We appreciate your support!

We are in the season of chilly mornings and sunny afternoons. Please make sure your child has appropriate layers of clothing to support our varied temperatures. Illnesses are on the rise. You can view the PYLUSD School Illness Guidelines HERE.

Many classrooms are having holiday festivities in the upcoming weeks! While we can’t wait for any mini Lion Cub to attend Lakeview in the future, we ask that parents make other arrangements for younger siblings while you volunteer in the class or attend a holiday play.

Reflections Art Contest WINNERS
Congratulations to the 14 Lions who placed in the Reflections Art Contest! We are so proud of you for sharing your gift with the world. See the attached list. 

Additional congratulations to Zachary Lukehart and Dylan Li for advancing to the 4th District level of competition! Submissions will be on display in the near future. Stay tuned!

PTA Association Mtg + Treats with the Principal: Child Mental Wellness - Thursday 12/15, 2:30 in the MPR
Join our *brief* PTA Association meeting and stay for an encouraging and informative Treats with the Principal on Thursday, December 15th. Our new Lakeview School Counselor, Ms. Murhi, will share helpful information on supporting the overall wellness of our children, connecting with them in new ways, and supporting you as parents. Cookies and beverages provided by the PTA. Children are welcome to attend. *Flyer attached*

Everyday Counts!
Please help your child be on time everyday! Students need additional time to walk from the valet to their classroom line. We begin our community flag salute at 7:50am. The warning bell is now at 7:45am. Chronic Absenteeism and Excessive Tardy Attendance Letters will go home this week. Many families have already adjusted attendance after receiving Letter #1 - thank you!

Independent Study Contracts
If you have a planned trip, please notify the office and your child’s teacher. An independent study contract can be arranged to ensure your child has ongoing access to their learning and provide for recaptured absences. We kindly request a 2-week advance notice.

Martial Arts International Karate Classes & Fundraiser

Need to Report an Absence? Please let the Office Staff know of your child’s absence by 10am using one of the following methods:
Option 1: Fill out the Absence Reporting Google Form, located on our school website.
Option 2: Call the 24 hr. Absence Reporting Line (also for students who will be tardy) at 714-986-7190, then press 3. Please have the following information ready:
Student's first & last name
Teacher
Date of the absence
Reason for the absence (if illness, we need the nature of the illness & symptoms the student is having)
Name of the person reporting the absence & their relationship to the student
Contact phone number
