Lakeview Lion Updates: November 4, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

Welcome to the final day of the first trimester! This has been one of our smoothest starts to the school year in quite some time. As I reflect over the past few years, I am thankful for the hidden gifts that have emerged from living in/through a pandemic as both a parent and educator. I’ve found that some of the little things are much more meaningful these days – time with one another, smiles, hugs, and seeing parents/guardians back on campus as volunteers. Thank you for your endless support to our staff and children. This partnership truly makes Lakeview a wonderful place to be.

I hope everyone’s Halloween and Dia de los Muertos celebrations were fun-filled and safe. The Lakeview campus was a fun buzz seeing kids and staff dressed up with holiday crafts and activities. I brought my 1-year old daughter, Elton, to our Trunk or Treat last Friday and she had a blast pointing out all the spider decorations and dancing to our fabulous DJ!

Teachers are spending the afternoon on this minimum day finalizing grades and preparing report cards. Please make sure to sign up for a Parent-Teacher Conference with your child’s teacher. This is a valuable time to hear about your child’s progress and overall well-being at school.

Thursday, 11/17 - Minimum Day

Monday, 11/21 - No School, Thanksgiving Break
Tuesday, 11/22 - No School, Thanksgiving Break
Wednesday, 11/23 - No School, Thanksgiving Break
Thursday 11/24 - No School, Thanksgiving Break
Friday, 11/25 - No School, Thanksgiving Break

Daylight Savings Time: Fall BACK - Nov 6
Make sure to turn those manual clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

Rain!
We have a high percentage of rain in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure to send your child with appropriate clothing and leave a little early to account for morning traffic.

Everyday Counts!
Please help your child be on time everyday! Students need additional time to walk from the valet to their classroom line. We begin our community flag salute at 7:50am. The warning bell is now at 7:45am.

Independent Study Contracts

If you have a planned trip, please notify the office and your child’s teacher. An independent study contract can be arranged to ensure your child has ongoing access to their learning and provide for recaptured absences. We kindly request a 2-week advance notice.

Viewing your child’s iReady scores in AERIES
A fellow parent and employee in PYLUSD has created THIS simple handout to guide parents to their child’s iReady Diagnostic assessment which is administered three times a year. Our second diagnostic window opens after Thanksgiving Break through December 9th. You can expect to find results uploaded a few weeks after the window closes to account for makeups and data transfer. The diagnostic assessments are a great form of progress monitoring for our teachers and a way for students to receive feedback on their growth. Their placement also determines the level of their personalized and adaptive ELA and Math lessons, which students work through weekly.
