Lakeview Lion Updates: June 3, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

Our Lakeview Carnival is happening NOW until 6:30 PM! Come join the fun! Pre-purchased wristbands and at-the-door sales are located at the ticket booth in the quad.

It’s been a lively week with an almost-summer buzz. We have 9 more days to go! Please note the dismissal times for next Friday, June 10 (minimum day) and Thursday, June 16 (last day TK-5) by viewing the attached bell schedule.

Safety Updates

On Monday, we will be holding our monthly emergency drill as a Shelter in Place drill. This is used in a precautionary manner due to a variety of instances, including but not limited to:

  • inclement weather (ie: tornados, high winds, hail)
  • environmental (ie: swarm of bees, coyote on campus)
  • police initiated as precaution (ie: serving a search warrant in the neighborhood and wanting schools to be proactive)

During a Shelter in Place drill, students and staff return to their normal classroom or workspace and maintain regular instruction. Lights stay on but doors are closed and locked. Should a child need to move about campus to attend a support service (ie: RSP, speech, counseling), use the restroom or visit the health office, support staff will simply escort them around campus. The main goal of a Shelter in Place is to maintain ongoing instruction and learning while implementing a precautionary layer of added safety. This is different from a lockdown drill where students and staff report to the nearest indoor area, lock doors, turn off lights and remain quietly away from windows and doors awaiting an All-Clear announcement.

While we never wish for any Lions’ safety to be compromised on our campus, we do need to practice emergency drills so our minds and bodies know what to do in the event of an actual fire, earthquake or safety concern. We have held monthly Fire Drills and trimesterly Earthquake Drills thus far. I attended my monthly Principals meetings yesterday where we had a productive conversation about Safety in PYLUSD. Please see The PYLUSD Advantage, Focus Area 4.0 - Safe & Respectful Environment for additional safety measures in place for all our students and staff.
