Lakeview Lion Updates: April 22, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

We had a wonderful visit with the Assistant Superintendent of Ed Services, Dr. Adamson, on Monday morning. In true Lakeview fashion, our teachers started the morning by jumping straight into core curriculum and maximizing instructional minutes. We observed students writing about their Spring Break activities, annotating text by determining familiar and unfamiliar vocabulary words, discussing the rationale for building contractions of words, discussing subtraction strategies and identifying living and nonliving things in desert biomes. Each staff member joins me in our belief that ALL students can learn and achieve at high levels. Monday morning was a beautiful testament of this.

Friendly Reminder of our Independent Study Procedures:

Our Short-Term Independent Study contract was established to ensure students in quarantine due to COVID-related illnesses have access to ongoing learning. Teachers prepare work assignments and your child is connected with our Short-Term Independent Study teacher who provides Zoom support and check ins.

For vacations and other non COVID-related absences, please see the following information located on page 12 of our Lakeview Handbook, housed on our school website:

If you know your child will be out of town for five school days or more, please inform your child’s teacher so we can have an Independent Study Contract completed for your child, and schoolwork can be taken with your child to complete during his/her absence. Please allow two weeks’ notice, minimally, so that appropriate paperwork can be started and discussed with the parent. Please request an independent study contract only if you, as the parent supervises completion of all work and record keeping required. A detailed work log during the trip showing a minimum of four hours of work per school day is required. The Independent Study Contract, along with the completed schoolwork, is due back the first day the student returns to school.

Please see the Office with any questions!

Health & Wellness:

We are on our final stretch into the remaining weeks of the 2021-22 school year! With that comes a lot of excitement for summer plans and unique health illnesses due to the changing seasons. Please continue to monitor your child for overall health and wellness, including but not limited to the common cold, COVID, stomach bugs, lice, allergies, etc. You can notify our office staff of any absences by using our simple and easy Google Form!
