Dear Lakeview Families,
I hope you have had a wonderful week, still celebrating Open House and all that your child has accomplished this year. As we continue to include traditional Lakeview events into our school-wide program, we get to see first hand how excited and amazing our students are. Kindergarten went on their second field trip to Centennial Farm today. Thank you to all our (brave!) parent volunteers for joining our little Lions on the bus. We have over 30 entries to the Science Fair. I took a walk through the MPR and was blown away by the creativity, thought process, and conclusions that were made. Our judges interviewed students today and have submitted their results in sealed envelopes. We have our Science Fair Awards Night on Thursday, March 17th in the MPR. Classrooms will get to walk through the MPR next week to see all the entries and add to their bank of fun facts.
Don’t forget, we “Spring forward” this weekend with the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. Here is a helpful resource and quick read sharing some tips on helping your child adjust.
A friendly reminder about the upcoming shift in the mask mandate:
As you are aware, after 11:59 PM on Friday, March 11, 2022, masking for students and staff in indoor K-12 school settings will shift from required to strongly recommended, irrespective of vaccine status, according to the California Department of Public Health. At this time, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) will align its protocols accordingly, which will allow students and staff a choice when it comes to masking on campuses starting on Saturday, March 12, 2022, and moving forward.
I understand that this is welcome news to some and may cause concern for others; however, many health and safety measures will continue to be in place Lakeview, and students and staff may wear masks if they choose. We appreciate all of our stakeholders’ continued patience and support as we have worked to maintain a safe and healthy environment for learning on our campuses since the start of the pandemic.
As PYLUSD aligns its protocols, we will continue to fully support those who choose to continue to wear a mask as a personal preference or medical requirement in accordance with the law. We ask for the support of our school communities in carrying out a respectful response to this transition—treating all individuals with kindness and empathy.
Below are some additional reminders about respecting personal choice when it comes to masking and other mitigation measures.
Respecting Personal Choice
- The state is providing personal choice for masking in schools with the expectation that individual choices are respected.
- One should not make assumptions regarding someone’s beliefs or health status based upon their choice to wear or not wear a mask, nor should they comment on them.
- If your child expresses any anxiety, feel free to reach out to myself or our wellness staff for additional support as needed.
Mitigation
- Students and staff should continue to remain home when sick.
- Students and staff are encouraged to take a COVID-19 test if exhibiting symptoms and/or if they have a known exposure to COVID-19.
- Additional hand washing and sanitizing stations across all campuses, HEPA air purifiers in every classroom, upgraded MERV-13 filters in all AC units, daily symptom self-checks for staff, additional alcohol wipes in classrooms, additional lunch tables, increased hydration station bottle fillers at all school sites, and more will continue to be in place.
- All COVID-19 positive cases among students and staff will continue to be reflected on the district’s COVID-19 Dashboard online at www.pylusd.org/dashboard.
As we move forward into this next phase, please know how grateful we are to have your ongoing support as we continue to prepare each and every student for success now and in the future.
