Lakeview Lion Updates: February 4, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

February is an exciting month filled with great activities and events. This is also a time when students' academic and behavior growth really kick it up a notch. Our iReady Diagnostic Window #2 just closed (don’t worry - if your child was absent, they will have an opportunity to complete their assessments) and our preliminary data has shown an overall school-wide increase in ELA from 45% to 70% at/above grade level and an increase in Math from 57%-78% at/above grade level! Excellent effort to all our Lions and teachers! We know the past two years have provided so many challenges and yet our students continue to show us their flexibility, perseverance and hard work. Thank you to all our teachers and staff for going above and beyond to care for the whole child, applying individual supports and collaborating to find solutions together. Lakeview is a dynamic place!

Thank you to the families who joined me at Treats in the Park, in lieu of Coffee with the Principal. This was an energized, outdoor time to share updates at Lakeview along with some school-to-home resources. Look for the final Coffee with the Principal for this school year in the Spring.

Another "Thank You" to our 3rd grade Room Parents and volunteers for providing beautiful and yummy treats in the lounge for our staff! The charcuterie table was a masterpiece and there were many laughs and fun conversations to be had. Thank you for helping to facilitate this connection.

As I walked through classrooms this week, there were so many energized activities and projects happening. Students were collaborating, expanding their thinking through writing, utilizing a variety of learning tools to demonstrate their knowledge, revise their thinking, make mistakes and find the correct solution! Take a look at some of the pictures on our Instagram @lakeviewpylusd.

Help your child get a jump start by registering on the Kids Heart Challenge website. When registering, your child will choose a heart healthy challenge to Be Active or Be Kind and earn a FREE Road Warrior Wristband! Our goal is to have 100% of our students register online and take the Challenge. This year, the KHC Explorers are going on a ROAD TRIP! CLICK HERE to jump on board and experience the road trip across the U.S. through daily activities for physical health, mental wellbeing and tips to help others with special hearts!
