Lakeview Lion Updates: January 22, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

This shorter week flew by and the end of January is quickly approaching. Your child has already or will be completing their second iReady diagnostic assessments in math and reading within the next two weeks. This is a time where we get to see the growth from the beginning of the year and celebrate your child's successes. For our upper graders who take the CAASPP test in the spring, the iReady Diagnostic is a great way to get them ready for the adaptive, online state test we will take in Spring. Please encourage your child to give their best effort, showing us what they know so our teachers can better support them into the final half of the school year.

Please take a look at important updates below:

Jog a thon update: We have officially met our goal of $40,000! Thank you to the many families who supported this fabulous event both in time and treasures. Please see the LINKED flyer with information on prizes.

PYL REACH Foundation Shamrock ‘N Run: Join your neighbors and fellow Lions at Yorba Regional Park for a fun morning of running and rocking out! Register HERE.

Join us in the Great Kindness Week Challenge, Jan 24-28: Your child will participate in activities on campus next week that promote kindness. Your family can join in to using the attached Family Checklist. As you read books with your children at night, pause to talk about the ways characters are being kind (or not being kind) and the impact it has on other characters. Invite your child each morning before school to decide on one way they can demonstrate kindness and check back in with them after school. The Great Kindness Challenge also offers a Kind Coins campaign you can do at home with your family.

Lakeview Science Fair coming up! Is your child already curious about experiments and figuring out how things work? Take a look at the attached flyer for more details. Sign up to participate HERE. A Parent & Student Guide is available on the website and will be in your child’s TH folder next week. Save the date: March 17th for our Science Fair Awards Night.

Water Awareness Poster Contest! - All OC students are invited to create posters that reflect the theme: #OCISWATERSMART. Many of my own students participated in this contest and even won. Some of their art was published in a yearly calendar for the county and displayed in prominent places like John Wayne airport. Please see the attached flier for details. All art will be due to the office by Wednesday, February 23. Please see the attached flyer.

Winter Instrumental Concert postponed until late Spring. More information to follow.

New Way to Report Absences! We have a new way to report your child's absence on our Lakeview Website! Click the Family Resources tab or the Report an Absence button in the top left corner.
