Lakeview Lion Updates: May 5, 2023

Dear Lakeview Staff,

We are so proud of our students grades 3-5 for completing their 1st week of state testing! Additionally, thank you to our staff members and each student in grades PS-2 who have helped maintain a quiet and optimal testing environment for our upper graders. We have two more weeks to go!

Upcoming is the Lakeview Staff Appreciation Week from May 8-12! Thank you to all the parents who have already donated items that will be used to shower our certificated and classified staff next week for a joint Appreciation Week. Please see the attached flier for daily gratitude acts.

Included next week is a special Kona Shaved Ice Day on Wednesday, May 10! Get ready for your tropical summer vacation by enjoying a delightful shaved ice after school. See attached flier for pricing and flavors.

Next week is also Mental Health Awareness Week. Our counselor, Ms. Murhi, will be sharing different positive mindfulness activities at recess and share coping strategies that any child can utilize when they are feeling unsure, anxious or worried. Take a look at the attached flier to get a sneak peek at what students will learn about.

We had wonderful Love & Logic presenters at this morning's Coffee with the Principal. You can view the Powerpoint attached.

Intent to Return - To help us best make plans for the 2023-24 school year, we ask that you fill out THIS informal survey for each child at Lakeview by May 5th.

Cyberbullying Parent Presentation May 16
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, the Orange County Department of Education Bullying Prevention Program will be hosting a virtual parent presentation focused on social media trends, information literacy, privacy and security, addressing and reporting cyberbullying, and parent/child communication. Cyberbullying and Digital Drama: Keeping Kids Safe, Happy, and Healthy in the Digital Age will be held via Zoom on May 16, 2023 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. In our ever-changing world with a lot of time being spent on digital devices, it is important to keep the conversation going about what parents can do to support their children in the complex environment of online learning and socializing. To register: visit http://ocde.k12oms.org/1378-231454 and Zoom information will follow. Please feel free to share this information with families and community members. Contact: Jacquie Johnson, Project Liaison, at 714-966-4473 or [email protected].

As we near the end of the school year, please note our Teacher Request policy as outlined in our Student Handbook:
CHOICE OF TEACHERS
To ensure well-balanced, heterogeneous classrooms, we do not accept teacher requests. In order to provide the best learning environment for all students, many factors must be considered. A qualified team will make the proper recommendation for the placement of your child. Kindly refrain from sharing requests with staff or administration.

Check out the PYLUSD Good News HERE.

Add your Lakeview pictures to the Yearbook!
Do you have class photos from recent activities? Share them with our Yearbook Committee to get them into the 2022-23 yearbook by emailing them to: Lakeviewlionsyearbook@gmail.com

Everyday Counts!
Please help your child be on time everyday! Students need additional time to walk from the valet to their classroom line. We begin our community flag salute at 7:50am. The warning bell is at 7:45am.

Independent Study Contracts
If you have a planned trip of 3+ days, please notify the office and your child’s teacher. An independent study contract can be arranged to ensure your child has ongoing access to their learning and provide for recaptured absences. We kindly request a 2-week advance notice.

Option 1: Fill out the Absence Reporting Google Form, located on our school website.
