Lakeview Lion Updates: January 13, 2023

Dear Lakeview Families,

Happy New Year to all! I hope you had a wonderful time with your family and friends during the holiday break. My family enjoyed a week with fresh snow in Big Bear and skiing for couple of days with our 5 year old, Easten. It was a great time to truly rest and do things that rejuvenate my soul – being with my family and taking naps! This was a much needed break which allowed our staff to recharge and be ready for our return this week. Our Lakeview Lions did an excellent job transitioning back, arriving on time, and navigating the unique weather. Thank you for giving yourself a few extra minutes in the morning so your child arrives on time!

I hope you received my exciting news of Lakeview being recognized as a 2023 California Distinguished School! We are 1 of just 38 Orange County elementary schools earning this achievement. What an honorable recognition for our students, staff and community! You can read more about the recognition HERE

Congratulations to the following students for Reclassifying as Fluent English Proficient (RFEP)! We are lucky to have Mrs. Romero providing targeted ELD instruction for our designated multi-language learners, in addition to the integrated lessons provided by each classroom teacher. Our goal is to always exit students from ELD which demonstrates they have met all criteria and no longer need the Tier 3 language support. If you have a child participating in ELD class, you are always invited and encouraged to attend our English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). Our next meeting is on March 22, 2023 at 8am in the MPR.

January is Kindness Month for all PYLUSD schools. Your child should have come home with a kindness checklist to serve as a fun and interactive family activity. This week, students visited the Kindness Station at lunchtime to create a thank you banner for our Nutrition Service Worker – Sunamita, and Noon Duty Supervisors – Lana, Samantha and Vivian. Additionally, each grade level stayed after recess to help ensure all snack trash was cleaned up to extend kindness to our Plant Coordinator, Mr. Raul. More activities to come! Thank you to Mrs. Day, our Academic Support Teacher, for coordinating our month long activities!

If your child recently qualified as a GATE learner, you should have received notification through their AERIES portal just prior to Winter Break. For those families interested in learning about Lakeview’s GATE program, please see the attached flyer for our information night on January 25 at 5:30pm in room 103. Kindly RSVP HERE.

The School Choice Transfer Window has opened! If your child is on an inter-district transfer (home school is outside of PYLUSD) or you have a TK student on a Choice Transfer, you will need to renew this to remain at Lakeview next year. Please click HERE for more information.

All best,
