Lakeview Lion Updates: December 16, 2022

Dear Lakeview Families,

We are heading into the final stretch before our Winter Break! I got to spend the morning with grades 1, 3, and 4 during our second session of Holiday Activity with the Principal while giving our teachers a much needed gift of time. Partnering once again with Strategic Kids who led us in a collaborative LEGO engineering activity, students’ creative juices were flowing as they designed and constructed castles. I was most entertained by the 1st grade group who had numerous hot tubs in their keeps and security cameras near their drawbridges! What fun to watch kids play, in a semi-structured environment, with open ended “bricks.” It was a challenge for some groups as they learned to navigate the art of negotiation and compromise but a wonderful opportunity to learn about each others’ hidden LEGO talents.

We were able to hire Strategic Kids thanks to the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds from the federal CARES Act. They have also begun Masters of the Field during lunchtime recess where students have the opportunity to learn about different organized games, sportsmanship and teamwork.

Thank you to our parents who attended yesterday’s PTA Association Meeting followed by Treats with the Principal. Ms. Murhi, our new school counselor, shared a wonderful presentation about Responsible Decision Making. The PDF presentation is attached below. Thank you for sharing your parenting questions and tips with one other.

For upcoming class parties and festivities next week, our sign in process has shifted slightly to accommodate the volume of parents entering the office at once:
1. Please park in an unmarked parking stall or on Brooklyn Avenue cul-de-sac and walk up.
2. Please sign in on the clipboards located on the tables in the foyer.
3. Make sure your circular volunteer sticker is prominently displayed so it is visible by all staff.
4. Then head straight to your destination on campus.
**There is no need to check in with the Office Staff for these special events.
